The Archive Committee is the caretaker of Millbrook Garden Club’s history. Founded in 1914 by prominent residents in the Village of Millbrook, MGC soon extended its membership and involvement - and thus its influence, from the Hudson River to the West to the shores of New England’s Housatonic River to the East, encompassing a 30 mile radius and three states. Its presence and impact on the communities where its members live is well celebrated in the Archives of the Club. Over 100 years of documents describe these milestones as well as those MGC accomplishments within The Garden Club of America- which it joined in 1915. The Archive Committee receives, organizes, conserves and makes available for research those items which catalogue Millbrook Garden Club’s prominence in developing the culture of American gardening, horticulture, floral design, and conservation-an ongoing legacy of the Millbrook Garden Club.

The goal of a Club’s Awards Committee is to recognize members and non-members whose accomplishments further the GCA goals. Awards and Commendations are given at Club and Zone Annual Meetings, and GCA awards up to 10 National Medals each year at its Annual Meeting. The Awards Committee proposes candidates for awards at all three levels to the GCA National Awards Committee for approval. Awards unique to the Millbrook Garden Club do not require GCA approval. More information on awards and past recipients may be found on the GCA Awards Committee page.

Civic Improvement and grants Committee members meet in October to review all written requests from outside organizations for financial support from the Club. Committee members examine each request to determine if it supports the mission and goals of the Club and meets necessary legal requirements. The committee then decides which requests they would recommend to the Club for support and for what amount. The Executive Committee and the Board vote and present the final recommendation for full membership vote at the November meeting. MGC has supported numerous worthy organizations over many years and welcomes first-time requests as well.

The purpose of the Conservation Committee is to keep the membership well informed on current conservation issues; to promote respect for natural resources and responsibility for environmental stewardship; to encourage our members to identify and carry out conservation work locally; to provide environmental education programs for the general public; and with the Executive Committee’s approval, to work with other conservation agencies and organizations whose programs complement those of The Garden Club of America. The Conservation Committee works closely with the National Affairs and Legislation Committee by sending delegates to the yearly NAL meeting. These delegates will inform the membership of current NAL issues. The Conservation Committee suggests speakers for programs, organizes field trips and meets as a committee at least once per year.

The Dig This committee oversees the publication of MGC’s quarterly bulletin, gathering writings by club members summarizing recent meetings, field trips, conferences and flower shows attended, and other articles of news, travel, or horticultural interest to our members. We edit submissions, gather, find and publish photos to accompany the articles, and meet quarterly to layout the issue. The issue is then posted to the MGC website; members are notified via email, and a hard copy is also mailed.
*DIG THIS deadlines are the 25th of February, May, August, and November

The purpose of a Millbrook Garden Club flower show is three-fold:
- To set standards of artistic and horticultural excellence,
- To broaden knowledge of horticulture, flower arrangement, conservation, and other related areas, and
- To share the beauty of a show with fellow club members and the public.Flower shows combine artistic vision, horticultural mastery, engineering, and sophisticated craftsmanship to create a brief but brilliant display of beauty in time.

The Garden History and Design Committee seeks to educate members about styles and current trends in landscape and garden design. The committee hosts programs, seminars, workshops and garden visits throughout the year.
In conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution archives of American Gardens (AAG), committee members also work to document and then submit significant information about public and private gardens in their zone. Through these submissions, the AAG collects, preserves, and provides access to the history of gardens in America. The documentation process assures that our rich garden heritage is better understood, appreciated and enjoyed by scholars and garden enthusiasts alike.

After 50 years of tending the herb garden, in 2016 it was transformed into a Habitat for Pollinators. Participants meet to maintain this plot of land. Besides lots of hands-on gardening, they learn about different pollinators and the plants that attract them. The garden has always been great place to meet other members and to exchange ideas. Provisionals are required to volunteer once during the season.

The Visiting Gardens Committee arranges visits for our members to gardens near and far, from half day trips to multi-day trips. Occasionally we will visit a museum exhibit or collection. We help arrange visits from members of other GCA clubs who want to see the many good gardens in the area. These also range from an afternoon to a few days and sometimes parties and lunches are involved. Committee members are all expected to participate in the garden tour in some way.
